Bitcoin exchange Coinbase has no plans to launch a token for its Base L2 network. The head of the trading platform, Brian Armstrong, said this in an interview with Decrypt.
In September, Coinbase chief lawyer Paul Grewal allowed the release of a project token in the future. According to him, at that time this was not completely ruled out.
That same month, a message appeared on Base’s social network X profile: “We have no plans to issue a network token.”
The project developers, even at the stage of launching the testnet, emphasized that the L2 solution does not involve the issuance of a token - ETH is used to pay transaction fees.
Armstrong noted that Coinbase is pleased with the development of Base since its launch in August. According to him, within a few months the network became the third among L2 solutions with a TVL of about $500 million.
“Now we are working on integrating it with various applications,” said the Coinbase CEO.
