According to TheBlock, Coinbase alerted some users that it had received a subpoena from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The case concerns the Bybit exchange.

It is believed that the CFTC wants to identify US Coinbase users who interacted with Bybit.

Thanks to this, the regulator will be able to charge the exchange with servicing US clients without registration.
