The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has lifted a restriction that prohibited banks from conducting transactions involving cryptocurrencies.

According to the authorities, such activities should be regulated.

Now, to work with cryptocurrencies, companies must obtain the appropriate virtual asset service provider license.

However, institutions are currently prohibited from holding, trading or transacting in cryptocurrency using their own accounts. However, the mitigations will affect individual users.
