Lawyers at Polygon Labs have proposed classifying DeFi as “critical infrastructure,” which should be monitored by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection (OCCIP).

They also noted that not all DeFi protocols are decentralized. According to the authors, projects with elements of centralization should be subject to existing financial rules.
